Tom The Great Artist & Piano Player - Everybody's Friend

Tom had a day job, his whole life.  He commuted on the New York Central Railroad to NYC daily. Tom worked all his life for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Where he doodled everyday on any blank piece of scrap paper he could find.  Tom was also a fantastic Piano player and could play songs by ear using his incredible memory.  Above all he was a great artist with countless works being preserved as NFT’s on the Algorand Blockchain and this website to his credit.

Tom received his formal introduction to “The Arts” through various schools. Among those in New York, he attended Mechanics Institute, Cooper Union, & Pratt Institute.  However, in his own words, he said he “had to unlearn all he had absorbed to develop and find his own particular ‘Art Spirit,’ in his own style and technique.”

Tom was grateful to friends and artists who have encouraged and nurtured his Spirit, such as Peter Hayward & Frank Herbst with whom he has painted with at the Salmgundi Club & exhibited their works in Greenwich Village.

Tom has exhibited his “Art Show” throughout Westchester County, New York & Shawnee Inn on the Delaware. His paintings were proudly displayed throughout various galleries in Westchester County & New York City.  Fred Waring is among one of many who acquired his paintings.

Tom had said “to interpret what one sees, to canvas, an artist needs to feel, to capture the ‘Art Spirit’ if they can.  The ‘Art Spirit’ however is a will-o'-the-wisp, not easily captured.”  It has been said that Tom tries with zeal, to put this elusive spirit in his work.

Thomas John LoPresti died on December 19, 1973, in Westchester, New York, when he was 63 years old.
